Cumberland Island offers the largest expanse of undeveloped beach on the Atlantic Coast as well as wild horses that run free as well as deer, wild turkey, alligator, armadillo, mink and over 300 varieties of bird.   On the water taxi (or by jet ski or boat) on the way to Cumberland, you will see schools of porpoises. 

Among things to do on Cumberland

Hiking - over 50 miles of hiking trails through wetlands, historical districts, marsh ecosystems, beaches and forests

Camping - Wilderness camping and developed campsites are available. Camping is limited to seven days and it is suggested to make reservations

Hunting - Six hunts are held during Georgia hunting season.  The hunts are advertised in the newspaper and a drawing is held to select hunters. 

Fishing - Stream fishing for trout, shore and deep sea fishing, shrimping and crabbing are all available on Cumberland

Photography - There are so many photo opportunities on Cumberland Island, they are unlimited.

Beach combing - for shells, sand dollars and shark teeth
